Images from Thayer M.S. student Garrett Rayner (Baker lab). Preferential etching of the matrix reveals a complex precipitate structure in a high-temperature stainless steel (Fe-20Cr-20Ni-2Nb-5Al at%). Etching was performed electrolytically using a nitric acid/methanol solution. Images acquired in BSE or reversed-bias SE mode.
